Community Education

In the Chopelwor area, people have attended school for less than 4 years on average. Thus, the illiteracy rate in this rural region is very high. It is estimated that around 60% of the villagers cannot read and write properly.

In May 2022, we hired a teacher as a caregiver in the children's home Home of Joy and thus started the community education project. While our children are in school, the teacher teaches the villagers in a church. Thirty to forty adults come every Monday and Wednesday for the free 2-hour classes. Some even walk a few kilometers to attend. Twice a week, she also teaches children who do not go to school because their parents cannot pay the school fees. They learn reading, writing and arithmetic.

With the Community Education Project we want to give the village population an opportunity to learn English and improve their writing and reading skills.
