In spring 2021, we realized the project of our own library. The building in which the books are housed will soon also be equipped with some laptops and tablets so that the children can learn how to use digital media. Three children will finish compulsory schooling next year and need to think about their future. Taban wants to study at university and the others are interested in a trade.

The local supervisors organize "taster days" so that the youth can get to know the various professions better. Our biggest concern for the near future is the fact that Uganda is heading towards famine.

Corona has caused the entire logistics system in the country to collapse and the fields could not be cultivated properly. Our first priority is to provide food for our home and the village population. It will be a huge challenge to procure enough food and bring it to Chopalwor.

At the moment, it is still not allowed to cross district boundaries, which makes the whole situation very difficult. The project to establish and build our own elementary school is in full swing and is taking shape. The plans have been drawn up, the first offers have been obtained, the costs have been calculated and talks with investors are underway.

LIVIA

My time at the "Home of Joy" children's home in Uganda was a formative and enriching experience. During my stay, I was not only able to make a direct contribution to the children's everyday lives, but also gain valuable insights into a different culture and way of life.

I helped look after the children, assisted with everyday tasks and organized playful and creative activities. I was particularly impressed by the warmth and joie de vivre of the children and the commitment of the staff. On site, I experienced a caring and supportive environment in which solidarity and mutual appreciation were tangible.

This experience broadened my view of the world and showed me how important interpersonal commitment is. I am very grateful for my time at the "Home of Joy" - it made me grow personally and I will always remember it.
