Opening of new school building

Together with his two colleagues Bea Reichle and Pascale Koller and Brigitte Born from the "Menschen für Menschen sein" association, Stefan Born, President of the Board of Trustees, visited "Mothers Nest" at the beginning of November 2018.

Currently, 26 orphans who can go to school and 32 children with disabilities live in "Mothers Nest". Two floors of the three-storey main building, which opened in 2016, are still used as a school, while "our" girls live on one floor. Once again, it was impressive to see what those responsible on site - under the leadership of Father Joseph - have achieved. It is a joy to see how the children in our orphanage are able to develop and become young personalities.

During our visit, we were able to help with the preparations for the opening of the new school (a project of the Swiss association "Menschen für Menschen sein") and enjoy a wonderful opening ceremony the following day. Joy and sorrow are often close together. When we came home from the celebration, one of our disabled children died the same day (the child had been very ill for some time). The funeral took place the following Sunday.

Many thanks to Joseph & his team and to Brigitte Born.

LIVIA

My time at the "Home of Joy" children's home in Uganda was a formative and enriching experience. During my stay, I was not only able to make a direct contribution to the children's everyday lives, but also gain valuable insights into a different culture and way of life.

I helped look after the children, assisted with everyday tasks and organized playful and creative activities. I was particularly impressed by the warmth and joie de vivre of the children and the commitment of the staff. On site, I experienced a caring and supportive environment in which solidarity and mutual appreciation were tangible.

This experience broadened my view of the world and showed me how important interpersonal commitment is. I am very grateful for my time at the "Home of Joy" - it made me grow personally and I will always remember it.
