The Board of Trustees has decided on a new location. With support, it was possible to acquire land for a new facility in Chopalwor.

We would like to expand the orphanage from 20 to 40 children and the following buildings are planned: 4 dormitories with 10 beds each, kitchen and covered communal area, shower and toilet wing as well as a playground and sports field. The water supply will be ensured by a well with tanks and a diesel pump, and a new solar system will provide electricity. The entire facility must be fenced off by law. Thanks to generous donations, we were able to start construction in April 2018.

The important thing for us is:

  • We want to provide "our" orphans with a safe and loving home, a good upbringing and a school education so that these children have the prospect of a self-determined life.
  • Integrating our projects into a suitable environment and involving the local population.
  • There should be a balance between the number of employees and the number of orphans cared for.
  • As we cannot continue to expand and develop the project at the current location in Masindi, the Board of Trustees has adopted the following measures:
  • Foundation of a local organization "Heart for Children" (April 2018)

LIVIA

My time at the "Home of Joy" children's home in Uganda was a formative and enriching experience. During my stay, I was not only able to make a direct contribution to the children's everyday lives, but also gain valuable insights into a different culture and way of life.

I helped look after the children, assisted with everyday tasks and organized playful and creative activities. I was particularly impressed by the warmth and joie de vivre of the children and the commitment of the staff. On site, I experienced a caring and supportive environment in which solidarity and mutual appreciation were tangible.

This experience broadened my view of the world and showed me how important interpersonal commitment is. I am very grateful for my time at the "Home of Joy" - it made me grow personally and I will always remember it.
