Malaria is one of the most common causes of death in Uganda. It is also an everyday issue at the Home of Joy children's home. The proximity to the national park increases the risk of malaria.
At the Home of Joy, the staff and children are well informed about the early detection and treatment of malaria. As soon as a child shows the first signs, a rapid test is carried out. If the result is positive, medical treatment begins immediately. This rapid response usually prevents severe cases - treatment is usually completed after three days.
The opening of the new infirmary in the village has also significantly improved access to diagnostics and treatment for the surrounding population. The microscope used can now not only reliably identify the malaria pathogen, but also assess the severity of the disease. In severe cases, treatment with tablets is not sufficient - an infusion is then necessary, which can now be administered directly on site in the infirmary. In the past, it was necessary to travel several kilometers to the nearest healthcare facility.
The fight against malaria is a daily task. Our aim is to ensure medical safety, prevention and education both in the children's home and in the village - so that no child has to die from malaria.
